Michael Rouse – Original Concept
Michael Rouse conceived of The Mechanic in the late seventies while pumping gas on the night shift at the Armdale Rotary Esso in Halifax, Nova Scotia. His inspiration came from cold fog, insomnia, teenage obsession with death and a pot smoking, co-worker named Darrell, who claimed to know, “everything there is to know about what’s under the hood.” The embryonic concept of “The Mechanic” rattled around in Michael’s head for 30 years and was then “channeled” to Michael Grand during a hike in North Vancouver in the spring of ‘09.
Inspired by the evolution of “The Mechanic”, and evolution itself, Michael Rouse is currently working on a feature length script based on a pot-head, graveyard shift grease monkey who thinks he knows, “everything there is to know about what’s under the hood”, but also feels he “got the sh*t end of the stick”.
